Why the Camino …..
Many have asked me to share my Camino journey, so I decided this little blog would be the easiest way to bring everyone along with me. I’ll share some of the miles, pictures, miles I walk in honor of others , people I meet, stories from the road, and whatever else unfolds along the way. And before I even take my first step, thank you. So many have loved, encouraged, helped, and supported me through everything it took to get to this moment. I feel incredibly lucky to have you cheering me .
Sooooo.. why the Camino? For years, my best friend and I have talked about the day we would both become empty nesters . It always seemed so far away. We talked about how we should celebrate it, travel somewhere amazing, plan a big adventure, do something completely different. We came up with plenty of ideas, but nothing ever felt quite right. Then I remembered the Camino. My dad had walked the Camino years ago, and one day I started looking into it. The more I read, the more I thought, this is it. Walking nearly 500 miles across Spain somehow checked so many boxes for what I wanted at this point in my life: adventure, challenge, simplicity, time to think, new people, new places and maybe most importantly, space. After almost 27 years of “ momming” raising my 3 kids at home , I am officially an empty nester . And in what feels like the blink of an eye, in the last two weeks I have dropped Blake off at college, sold our house of 24 years, moved to Boston and now I'm heading to Spain. That's a lot of change all at once.I don't look at the Camino as a way to figure out exactly what comes next. I'm actually looking forward to not having to figure everything out for a while. For the next 500 miles, life gets pretty simple.Wake up. Put on my shoes. Carry what I need on my back. Walk. Eat. Meet people. Think. Pray. Laugh. Notice what's around me. Sleep. And then get up and do it again. I'm excited about the physical challenge, but I think I'm even more excited about the space and the opportunity to slow everything down after 27 years of life moving incredibly fast.I have no idea what I'll find along the way or even exactly what I'm looking for. And for once, I'm completely okay with that. I just know it's time to start walking.
Thanks for coming along for the journey.Buen Camino. ❤️
